Wild Fire….the last
Loved the book, as all the others. Sad that this is the last story & will miss my time with Perez. Glad he’s got a life & a future coming. Would have attended the wedding if I’d be invited 😉😉
Shame it’s the last one
This is the last in the Shetland series and it is a shame it’s the last, the books have been enjoyable with varying degrees of predictability. They are a cut above whodunnits for the most part, driven by detective Perez the lead character but with some nice insights into other players.
In this book the author treats autism with insight and respect. For that she should be commended. She manages to perfectly execute a story where a character just happens to be on the spectrum, instead of the usual stereotyping, where autism is disrespectfully, and often detrimentally, used as a plot device.
Her treatment of family violence is similarly well done, showing a sound understanding of the many layers of secrecy and shame among those who know and do nothing, causing further harm and failing to prevent more tragedy.
Lastly, small town gossip is revealed for what it really is, malicious and harmful, driven by sadness, boredom and the need for a meaningful life.
Like I said, more than the average whodunnit.

Great read. Sad that this is the last in the Shetland series. Hoping for more great stories.
