Publisher Description
Origami artist John Szinger shows how to fold 12 all original models, from a single square of paper, in his first book "Zing Origami". John has diagrammed models ranging in difficulty from simple to complex that use alternate geometries, one-sixth and one-fifth, and polar or rotational-based symmetries. His innovative models included are Adirondack Canoe, Adirondack Chair, Octopus, Loon, Brown Bear, Butterfly, Hot Air Balloon, Asian Elephant II, Baluchitherium, Lizard, Snapping Turtle, and Fivefold Rose. These models can be folded from a single square, most from a six- or ten-inch sheet. Although they can be made from foil or wet-folded to bring out the sculptural aspects, it isn’t necessary. Zing Origami is especially formatted for ereader devices.
Customer Reviews
Valley fold, squash fold, finished.
While the models in this book look great, you will probably never make them because the instructions are DREADFUL!!
Many times you must make a fold with no point of reference, only to later have the model fail because you didn't get it exactly right.
Other times you must make an incredibly complicated fold with no more guidance than "Squash fold" or "pull out layers".
Finally, I don't think some of the models are all that well designed other (personal opinion). Often you need to make an elaborate fold with no apparent pay-off in the final model. Some you can skip, others could be replaced with simpler folds. I've seen other animals that are quite similar to the one's in this book that won't have you rage-quitting and throwing half an hour's work in the bin.
