We loved the way this novel tweaks the typical enemies-to-lovers format, replacing the trope’s usual hatred with a searing professional rivalry that fills Shane and Ilya with explosive frustration and adoring awe—both of which pave the way for knee-buckling steaminess after the buzzer. But as red-hot as it is for two supposed adversaries to hook up in secret, a yearning for tenderness begins quietly underscoring their rivals-with-benefits arrangement, forcing them both to confront what they really want. The sultry bass of Tor Thom’s lush narration is an ideal fit for this irresistible listen.
