Ashes and Lies

The man convicted of murdering Daniel Cross's ex-wife has just finished twelve years in Pentridge. 

Now he is standing in Daniel's third-floor office in a storm, asking the dead woman's ex-husband to find the real killer. 

Daniel throws him out. Then he plays what Bradley Raven left behind: a cassette from Veronica's belongings, a man's voice threatening her the night before she burned in her own bed. 

The Arthur's Point police files turn out thinner than the jury was ever told, and a security man from Harrow Psychiatric Hospital advises Daniel that some stones are better left unturned. 

Daniel wants the name behind that voice. 

What he does not want is to tell his fifteen-year-old daughter that the man who took her mother may have taken nothing at all.
