An Update on the Assessment, Prevention, and Treatment of Neuropsychiatric Sequelae Associated with Traumatic Brain Injury

Publisher Description

Historically, the first major advancements in acute care of head injuries occurred after World War II, built on principles derived from military experiences and modern scientific, technological, and organizational progress. There has been a dramatic increase in civilian closed head injuries since the second half of the 20th century as a consequence of urbanization, roads, and the growing awareness of head injuries. In this book, we provide an update on the current knowledge of the neurobiological sequelae and genetic risk factors associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Next, we address the most current and effective screening tools to identify the occurrence and severity of symptoms associated with TBI. We also discuss neuropsychiatric conditions associated with TBI, and provide evidence-based guidance for accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment of TBI in high-risk populations.
