In Paul’s second letter to Timothy, Paul drops some bad news. First of all, he writes of his imminent death. This will be Paul’s last letter and he knows his time on earth is limited. Additionally, Paul warns Timothy of the reality that there are many Christians and Christian leaders who are giving up on the gospel completely. As the church faces a growing atmosphere of apostasy, it is now up to Timothy, Paul’s young “son in the ministry” to pick up where Paul has left off. The theme of the first and second chapter of 2 Timothy basically centers on the challenge not to fall away from the Christian faith and, in fact, fight for the gospel. In this series we will notice Paul’s call to fight for unity, truth, and love as his appeal to understand what it means to be a “worker” who is found approved by God and made worthy by Christ. This series will challenge us not only from a personal perspective to our Christian life but also from a kingdom perspective as we examine our responsibility to CONTEND for our faith!
