CUENCA TESOROS
Una ciudad de los andes ecuatorianos que parece haber detenido el tiempo para mostrarse con encanto en una mezcla armónica entre sus habitantes, construcciones patrimoniales y naturaleza Aquí se siente un aire de misticismo y creencias culturales heredadas.
Al inicio llamada Guapondelig o "llanura tan grande como el cielo" en lengua Cañari por las bondades naturales del lugar, posteriormente le pusieron Tomebamba los conquistadores Incas adaptando sus construcciones y la ciudad a la topografía del suelo como un profundo respeto a la naturaleza para finalmente ser fundada como Santa Ana de los 4 ríos de Cuenca siguiendo los preceptos de fundación de ciudades españolas en América. Es en esta etapa que la ciudad inicia su desarrollo con un trazado de damero y sus construcciones de característica Andaluza lo cual se ha ido conjugando con los conocimientos y materiales locales para tener una arquitectura vernácula riquísima en expresiones cuencanas.
Es esta historia que decidí contar mediante pinturas e ilustraciones hasta llegar a la presente recopilación de postales de lo sabiamente edificado, de las bondades de su naturaleza y también del vivir diario de la gente con quienes me gusta compartir en mi ciudad y plasmar con lápices y pinceles.
Recorriendo a pie se puede conocer variedad de manifestaciones en Cuenca ciudad declarada Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad hace 20 años. Al caminar te acompaña el sonido de campanarios con la luz de las blancas fachadas de iglesias y casas viendo encuentros entre mujeres campesinas con sus vestimentas multicolores: polleras blusas y sombrero de paja toquilla. Manos artesanales crean un entorno multicolor en una paleta de materiales y texturas que incluye también sabores pues la estrecha relación con el maíz y la cercanía al campo se unen con el conocimiento para crear una exquisita gastronomía local.
Parte de esta riqueza cultural se recopila en el presente libro procurando mostrar esta belleza en un fluir de trazos con fuerza, paz y misticismo.
CUENCA TREASURES
A city in the Ecuadorian Andes that seems to have stopped time to show itself charming. Here you feel an air of mysticism and inherited cultural beliefs in a city declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity 20 years ago by the important urban complex that remains in harmony with the cultures that inhabit it and the environment.
At the beginning the city was called Guapondelig or "plain as big as the sky" in the Cañari language because of natural benefits in the place, later the Inca conquerors named it Tomebamba adapting their buildings and the city to the land topography as a nature respect to finally be founded as "St. Ana of the Four Rivers of Cuenca" following the foundation precepts of Spanish cities in America. At this stage the city begins its development with a checkerboard grid and its buildings with Andalusian characteristics, which have been combined with local knowledge and materials to obtain a vernacular architecture rich in Cuenca expressions.
That story that I decided to tell through paintings and illustrations until I reached postcards compilation about the wisely built, the goodness of its nature and also the daily living of people with whom I like to share in my city and capture expressions with pencils and brushes.
By walking you could be accompanied by the sound of bell towers with the white facades light of churches and houses; the peasant women encounters are always special with their multicolored clothing: skirts, blouses and a toquilla straw hat. Cuenca is a city of artisanal hands that create a multicolored environment in a palette of materials and textures that also includes flavors; due to the close corn farming relationship and the proximity to the fields, knowledge joins this to create exquisite local cuisine.
Part of this cultural wealth is collected in this book, trying to show this beauty in a strokes flow with strength, peace and mysticism.
