Opportunities and Challenges in Aquaculture Most opportunities to expand the world's fisheries output are in aquaculture. Better management of capture fisheries may expand wild production modestly, but such gains will not keep pace with growing world demand for fish. Government decisions will greatly shape the future development of aquaculture. Most notably, governments will determine how aquaculture will be given access to the marine environment.
