Forward Pass: A Story of the "New Football‪"‬

In this classic football story by popular children’s author Ralph Henry Barbour, readers are introduced to Dan Vinton, a good looking, well-built and kind mannered young man from a small town in Ohio. He is 15 years old and attending the prestigious boarding school Yardley Hall in Pennsylvania. At school, his biggest wish is to play for the football team which was struggling with the new rule allowing the “forward pass” in a game. Making the team, however, proves to be more difficult than he originally thought. Barbour specialized in juvenile sports fiction and was a master at describing the excitement of the games and the determination of the players. Published in 1908, two years after football’s revolutionary rule changes, this story is a fun and unique account of the sport’s formative years.
