Four Lectures on Islam

ISLAM—which means complete submission to Divine control in the mode and conduct of life, and implicit and unreserved obedience to laws revealed to man by God in preference to all our prepossessions, inclinations or judgments—is a religion which embraces all such religions that have been preached by teachers inspired by God in various ages and different countries. Thus the Quran says in this respect:—We believe in God and in what has been revealed to us, as well as to Abraham, Ashmeal, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants; we also believe in what was given to Moses, Jesus and to all the Prophets raised by the Creator of the Universe; we accept all of them, without making any distinction among them.
