This is the fourth in a four-volume series on the brief period of history after the execution of King Charles I when England became a Commonwealth led by Oliver Cromwell. This final volume discusses the early life of Cromwell, the precarious state of religion, including Catholics, Jews and the rising Protestants, directly proceeding the execution of Charles I and the death of Cromwell in 1658.
