After every major tragedy, the world eventually lulls itself back into a sense of security. After every death, a life is created in its place. The Mayan's and numerous other ancient civilizations theorized that the world may come to an end (as we know it) in 2012... but no one is sure how. Sometimes we could all use a hero.
