Night Harvest

Night Harvest is a poem I wrote, and as a word of warning, this poem is of a darker theme, so beware... !! It evokes night terrors and organ harvesting urban legends. Is this character dreaming, or, is reality worse? 


   This poem combines two types of poetic structure, Accented and Syllabic; it is 7 stanzas of 4 lines each. The first 3 lines of each stanza have 11 syllables each, the 4th line having only 4 syllables. The accented lines follow a specific meter so that the accented word (or word part) is always on the same syllable count of the lines - the 11 syllable lines are accented/emphasized on syllables 3, 7, and 11 while the 4 syllable lines accents are syllables 2 and 3. This poem also follows a strict rhyming pattern where the first 3 lines of a stanza all have the same end-rhyme while the fourth does not rhyme (yay rhymes).  This is my most favorite form of poetry, particularly when adding a regimented rhyme scheme! Once again I did not use punctuation, but if you follow the accented syllable count you’ll definitely get the rhythm without need of punctuation. 


   The structure of this poem provides for seven chapters (one for each stanza). Each stanza has had its lines split-apart in order to preserve the intent (the pacing) of each line, and thus each line may be given its own page; there may be instances, however, where managing the evolution of the poem in your mind, some lines have been split into multiple pages, or, multiple lines of a stanza remain on the same page (making it so a page is not necessarily equal to the count of lines of a stanza).
