From the author's forward: "The actual drama implied by the title is in the meteorological phenomenon of the Nor'easter, where conditions originating in the south move north to combine with those moving from the northeast-much as I myself moved from the Mid-Atlantic Coast to New England, thus creating the sequence of these poems. Aside from this, the theme of the book is that mysterious something which defies all logic. You may call it the Fancy, perhaps even the Imagination, providing you are in a Wordsworthian mood."
