In his second book, the author once again enters weird territory--this time as an officer on a popular cruise ship, amidst crewmembers from almost every country in the world. Taking refuge in the ship's crew bar, Nickell observes and reports on the surreal, fascinating, and oftentimes frustrating life of working on a cruise ship. Tall tales, hurricanes, disintegrating uniforms, rogue cans of Guinness, the McDonaldization of an entire company, and dour observations of American tourists are all in a day's work, and thirsty work it is.
