Alana Halpern happens to have a pilot’s license, and the ad agency where she works loves to exploit that by having her impress potential clients by flying them to and from the agency’s headquarters. She’s not happy when the company asks her to fly toy store mogul Judd Singer into town on the morning before the first night of Hanukkah, but she assumes she’ll be back home by sundown, in time for her family’s holiday celebration.

But engine trouble causes the small plane to crash on a snow-covered mountain in a remote corner of New Hampshire. She and Judd take shelter in an abandoned hunter’s cabin, where a kerosene lamp with barely any oil in it continues to burn, where they find a stash of candles, where the wood pile outside the cabin never dwindles.

Judd doesn’t believe in miracles. Yet his and Alana’s survival is a miracle, and the cabin keeps providing miracles to keep them alive until they’re rescued. Hanukkah, he knows, is all about miracles—and enduring this ordeal with a beautiful, spirited, determined woman like Alana is enough to make him believe, and to open his hear
