Tale of a Clever Hare

Tale of a Clever Hare tells the story of an ailing Dragon King who is told he can recover his health only through eating a hare’s liver. He sends Turtle to get a hare from dry land. Remarkably, Turtle successfully returns with Hare, but Hare escapes through his sharp wits. As in Aesop’s Fables, with their animals talking like humans and doing human things, Tale of a Clever Hare is also a kind of fable.


Hare and Turtle take turns fooling and being fooled by one another, producing a dramatic relationship and keeping the reader engrossed in the story.
