Great Expectations
Publisher Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Charles Dickens’ classic explores potent themes like good versus evil, crime, repentance, love and betrayal. At the center of the story is Pip, an impoverished orphan who dreams of a better life. When a mysterious benefactor gifts Pip a substantial fortune, he’s rescued from a life of deprivation and abuse-and introduced to a memorable host of characters: the bizarre Miss Havisham, a wealthy heiress who was spurned at the altar; her cold, austere ward Estella, who eventually breaks Pip’s heart; and an escaped convict who teaches Pip that people aren’t always what they seem.
Dickens’ novel-which was originally serialized in a weekly newspaper-contains major plot twists at every turn, which accounts for its enduring popularity. It’s a gripping read and a thrilling portrait of Victorian England.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This beloved classic from Dickens follows the life and adventures of a six-year-old orphan named Pip as he makes his way and comes of age in 19th-century England. Simon Prebble turns in a solid performance in this audio edition, offering up a lush and resolutely dramatic reading and creating a panoply of unique voices and accents for the book's many characters. But while Prebble's performance is lavish, it fails to distinguish itself from the scores of previous audio productions of Dickens's novels. Still, his reading remains a pleasure and a well-orchestrated introduction to the world of Dickens one that could serve as a wonderful opportunity for both fans and those new to the author's work.

Great Expectations review
In the book "Great Expectations", by Charles Dickens, there was a lot of good content and the whole book was thrilling. What happens is that a boy called Pip writes something like a diary describing his life-story. He starts off as a poor, young 6 year old boy that lives in a small village in England. His parents are dead and he visits their graves quite often. Once, while Pip was thinking about his parents, he got kidnapped by a convict named Magwitch. Pip is forced to steal food and a file for the convict, but tries to hide it from his best friend, Joe Gargery and his sister, Mrs Joe Gargery. That gets him in a lot of trouble.
When he is grown up a bit, he meets Estella and Miss Havisham. He falls in love with the heartless Estella and is fooled by Miss Havisham.
He grows up more and becomes about 20 years old and he gets a great fortune from an unknown benefactor. He goes to London to become a gentleman, leaving his two best friends, Biddy and Joe Gargery. He becomes a gentleman and finds a new friend, Herbert Pocket.
Pip is still in love with Estella and thinks she grows more beautiful with every day. They meet in London and Pip is astonished by her beauty. He wants to marry her, but she has to marry a guy named Drummle.
Pip discovers the truth about Estella's parentage( since she is adopted by miss Havisham).
He becomes friends with Magwitch and helps him escape. That also got Pip in some sorts of trouble.
Miss Havisham dies and Pip gets kidnapped by a guy called Orlick. Orlick works with Joe and he is jealous.
Magwitch dies and Pip gets ill.
Joe and Biddy marry and they have a child called Pip.
Pip goes to Satis house again and meets Estella there. They agree to be friends apart. That ends the book.
