Publisher Description

The purpose and content of this book is to spell out the spirituality of a 17th century woman for the people of today. Mary Ward (1585-1645) was misunderstood by the Catholic Church for several centuries. She was not recognised as the foundress of her religious congregation (Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary - English Ladies) until the beginning of the 20th century, and not until the Second Vatican Council could her congregation realize her original intention of creating an autonomous congregation for women with the same way of life, constitutions and apostolic goals as the Society of Jesus.

Mary Ward left a unique spiritual legacy which is still relevant today. In the course of each short chapter the author uses an original quotation as the starting point for her exploration. This spirituality is not just suitable for members of religious orders. On the contrary, it opens up the meaning of the presence of God for every believer, man or woman, and offers valuable insights for a personal life of faith.
