Teaching Biology to Nature-Illiterate Students

A New Biology Teaching Guide

Publisher Description

We live in an age of Nature Deficit Disorder, when kids spend many hours each day on electronic devices, and, in many cases, have become divorced from the biological community that surrounds them. The logical person to confront this deficit and help restore an interest in the natural order and the fascinating biodiversity that surrounds us every day, it seems to me, should be the Biology teacher. In this short book I offer a rationale for restructuring the Biology syllabus, and a series of outdoor labs that I have used for twenty-five years to reintroduce students to their natural roots, while exposing them to a rigorous scientific approach.
