The National Parks Portfolio

Published by the Department of the Interior, this book details the National Parks as they existed in 1916. The National Parks Portfolio collects nine pamphlets written by naturalist and parks advocate Robert Sterling Yard. Using photographs and descriptive texts, Yard expounds on the scenic grandeur and uniqueness of what he calls "America's masterpieces." Yard hoped to raise the National Park System to a new level of national consciousness by connecting visiting the parks with a sense of national identity, pride and citizenship.
