Publisher Description

A lonely bench. A cash machine. A power plant. These pages give a voice to the unheard pieces of the city. We pass them by day after day but never really pay attention. How would they feel if they were conscious? What would they think of themselves and of their creators? These poems explore the possibilities.

I first thought about making this collection when I saw a tree in the middle of what's probably the busiest street in the city. It was there, all alone, in between the people and the shops and the cars and the masses of concrete. I remember thinking that the place must have seemed so strange to the tree, given where it normally would grow. I wrote the poem 'Pavement Tree' and went on to explore other objects that I found interesting. I would roam the streets, blending with them, to emerge with a new found appreciation for the things around.

These poems were written in a span of about 2 years, while I lived in Brighton, England. I provide photos of the objects that inspired the poems.
