This pallid sequel to Loving Lies reads like a poor imitation of a Leigh novel: the characters' emotions are always on high, their lust never waivers, and the supposedly brave heroine still needs a strong hero to save her. Wanting to protect those she loved, but unsure whether they were trustworthy or part of the plot, she remained on the run for years before returning to Loudon, Tenn., disguised as Annie Mayes.
