For years Allie's work as an archaeologist has been her life. Through relentless determination she hopes to achieve her goal of running her own dig site. The last thing she ever wanted was to be stuck on a farm in Colorado... like her parents. But when her mother is hurt in an accident, Allie must put her aspirations aside and return home. Fearing she will lose an upcoming promotion to her colleague, Allie has one foot out the door from the moment she arrives. Little does she know, fate has other plans.

Other than Allie being Sophie’s, from the first book in this series, sister I wondered if like Sophie and Beth Allie would be diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, for that wasn’t the case, but she was weighed down by guilt from a decision in her past and her focus on advancing in her career held her back from her family and strong romantic commitments. Allie must have a lot of passion for it to work in a career where she keeps being laid off depending on available digs sites and has to travel to dirty places and live in a tent. I couldn’t do it and I don’t know what my decision would have been in her shoes in college. Luke was a little harsh at times like berating her over the climbing accident. But other times he was calm under pressure and supportive when he opened his heart.
