Planting Culture, Harvesting Generation Growth
There's something so beautiful about reading a reconnection to history. All of our ancestors would be proud to be given the opportunity to be heard again. What was once outlawed, banned, illegal to be spoken, to be expressed, we can now write books about and persevere. Languages not lost and in need of cultural development to preserve and be spoken are at our fingertips and in the way we live our lives. My great-grandmother was a full Anishinaabe speaker of Ojibwe, she was in a residential school until stolen from her family to marry an American solider and forced to have her three daughters, one was my grandmother. And even though my grandmother cannot speak Ojibwe, we have cousins and aunties who live on our reservation and some who still are humbled in their ways. By planting this ideas and this mindset in everyone that reads this novel, that "the good life" is obtainable, and we are capable of healing and decolonizing from the smallest steps.. I believe there is a great bountiful harvest that could come from novels such as this. Thank you for your wisdom and your writings. Miigwech!
