The Lanterns of Lumehaven

When Registry Inspector Mara Vell arrives to audit the canal district's failing lights, she expects bureaucratic chaos: broken lanterns, sloppy maintenance, and people who have forgotten the rules.

What she finds instead is magic the Registry never taught her to see.

Lanterns that warm at a neighbor's greeting. Bridges that answer old knocks. A stubborn west-stair light called Stepkeep that refuses to dim because someone still needs it.

The district does not need stricter rules. It needs someone willing to rewrite them.

Caught between her duty to the system and the quiet truth the lights are showing her, Mara must choose: preserve order, or make room for the kind of belonging no official form has ever been built to hold.

A cozy fantasy about living light, found home, and the quiet magic of letting a place claim you back.
