Kainchee Lagaa & Jhooti

In this daring and disruptive double bill, Zaiba Baig dismantles the white saviour complex and demolishes the fourth wall with two subversive tales told by unreliable narrators.

In Kainchee Lagaa, the lives of two estranged siblings intertwine across space and time. Billo, a tandoori-chicken-loving sex worker, is saving up to run away with someone special, while her brother Arsalan is haunted by their family’s traumatic past. As memory and myth collide during a long-awaited reunion, nothing is certain, and no one is innocent. In Jhooti, a trans woman on the run, carrying a plastic bag full of her belongings, pleads for protection. But soon her story unravels into a dangerous web of destruction.

Together these explosive dramas plunge into the multidimensional depths of Brown trans women teetering on a tightrope between truth and survival. Toying with the audience at every turn, Kainchee Lagaa & Jhooti: The Begging Brown Bitch Plays are an essential theatrical intervention that promises to leave no one unscathed.
