NYC medical Examiner Dr. Maximillian Leary has a crush on Lieutenant Darlene Duran from the 32nd Precinct's robbery homicide unit. Dr. Maxi has been 'in like' with the lieutenant since they worked another case together two years ago. She would love nothing more than to get to know the lieutenant better on a social level.

Unfortunately, the lieutenant thinks the doctor is too much. She thinks the doctor is too young for her. She thinks the doctor is too brilliant, in other words, crazy as a bed bug. For example, the doctor blurts out information without any kind of filter and dresses in wild colors to complement her wild red hair and style. Lieutenant Duran, on the other hand, wears color-coordinated, GQ-looking suits, blouse, shirts with matching topcoats, leather boots and matching leather gloves, and has a personality to match.

When a couple of frozen bodies are found in a snow drift, these two women are forced to coexist and work the case as if they agree on everything they discover.
