Senator John Kennedy: From Oxford to One-Liners

He has an Oxford law degree, an Order of the Coif ranking from UVA, and a green tie covered in tiny embroidered crawfish and he wants you to know all three matter exactly the same amount.

Long before he was comparing a scandal-ridden CEO to Lindsay Lohan with the keys to a mini-bar, John Neely Kennedy was a small-town Louisiana kid who studied philosophy at Vanderbilt, edited the law review at UVA, and crossed the Atlantic to earn a second law degree at Magdalen College, Oxford then came home and built one of the most unlikely careers in modern American politics: a Democrat-turned-Republican who lost two Senate races before finally winning a third, spent seventeen years quietly running Louisiana's finances as state treasurer, and then walked into Washington and became, almost overnight, the single most quoted member of Congress.

This is the full record not just the viral clips. The childhood in Zachary. The two campaigns that ended in defeat before the one that didn't. The decade of Senate hearings where Socrates met Dirty Harry. The flood insurance fight nobody covers on cable news. The vote on January 6, 2021, that his critics still haven't let go of and that he hasn't walked back. The bestselling book that turned a decade of one-liners into a number-one New York Times hit.

Whether you think he's the last honest man in Washington or the best act in it, this is the whole story behind the punchline researched, documented, and told straight.
