The Car of Destiny

First published in 1906, The Car of Destiny carries readers on a grand motorcar tour through sun-baked Spain, where sightseeing quickly gives way to suspense. As the travelers wind from cathedral cities to mountain passes, a spirited young heroine and her companions are drawn into a web of romance, secret loyalties, and a royalist rising that will test every nerve—and every horsepower—they possess. The Williamsons, the most celebrated husband-and-wife team of the early motoring age, blend brisk adventure, light comedy, and loving portraits of a country on the cusp of change, all seen from the seat of a car that seems to steer its passengers toward fate. This edition reproduces the complete, unabridged original text, with a new introduction and reader's notes illuminating the novel's Spanish setting and its place in early automobile fiction. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
