The Old Lady flies

An aging aircraft, a stubborn pilot, and the open sky — The Old Lady flies is Raoul Whitfield's masterful tale of loyalty, risk, and the strange affection a flyer holds for a machine that has carried him through too many close calls. Written with the authenticity of a man who knew the cockpit firsthand, this story captures the golden age of aviation in lean, vivid prose that still crackles with tension. This edition presents the complete, unabridged original text exactly as Whitfield wrote it, accompanied by a fresh introduction that places the work in its pulp-era context and reader's notes that illuminate period references and flying terminology. Whether you come for the airborne drama or the literary history, you will find both in full measure. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
