Complete Short Works of George Meredith

Step into the world of one of Victorian literature's most dazzling stylists. This edition of the Complete Short Works of George Meredith reproduces the full, unabridged original text — every story, exactly as first published — and surrounds it with a new introduction and reader's notes designed to illuminate Meredith's wit, his experiments in romance and fantasy, and the comic spirit that made him famous. Here are the shimmering oriental tale 'The Shaving of Shagpat,' the exuberant German romance 'Farina,' and the poignant novellas of love, vanity, and late-blooming feeling, including 'The Tale of Chloe' and 'The Case of General Ople and Lady Camper.' Whether you are discovering Meredith for the first time or returning to an old favorite, these pages offer stories of charm, irony, and surprising tenderness. A handsome companion for students, book clubs, and lovers of the classic short form. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
