The Anabasis of Alexander : $b or, The history of the wars and conquests of Alexander the Great

March with Alexander the Great from Macedon to the edge of the known world. Arrian's Anabasis of Alexander is the fullest and most trusted ancient account of one of history's most astonishing careers: the young king's crossing into Asia, the victories at Granicus, Issus, and Gaugamela, the founding of cities, the march into India, and the tragic end in Babylon. Writing in the second century CE, Arrian drew on eyewitness sources now lost to us, and his admiration for his subject gives the narrative its enduring energy. This edition reprints the complete, unabridged original text — all seven books — in a classic English translation, framed by a new introduction and reader's notes that illuminate the people, places, and ideas on every page. Whether you are a student, a lover of military history, or a curious reader approaching the classics for the first time, this volume invites you to experience the ancient world at first hand.
