Where the Wick Stands

Where the Wick Stands

Where the Wick Stands is a quiet, atmospheric story about grief, memory, and the fragile ways people carry one another forward.

Hayeon works in a small candle studio beneath Cheongsu Market, where she spends her days carefully setting each wick at the exact center of its mold. Two years after the death of Doyun, a local photographer and writer, she still cannot bring herself to face the people he left behind—or open the last letter he gave her.

Then Doyun's widow, Yoonhee, invites Hayeon to a small memorial gathering.

A candle marked with a date.
A worn matchbox.
A letter that begins with one simple word: Please.

As the gathering draws closer, Hayeon's carefully ordered life begins to shift. An interview for a permanent position forces her to confront an uncertain future, while Junho, the man closest to her, asks her to finally decide what she wants from their relationship. At the candle studio, she also finds an unexpected connection with Jian, a woman trying to rebuild her life after losing her job.

Then an unfinished request from Doyun leads them to an abandoned railway station by the sea.

There, among rusted rails and wind-bent reeds, they discover a small notebook filled with observations about ordinary people, quiet gestures, and the things that remain unspoken. What they find changes the meaning of Doyun's final request—and gives Hayeon a new way to understand what she has been carrying all this time.

Tender and deeply atmospheric, Where the Wick Stands is a story about the weight of memory, the warmth people leave behind, and the quiet courage it takes to keep moving.

Sometimes a flame bends in the wind.

Sometimes, it stands again.
