The Sense of Wonder

On a vast ship drifting through space, Rikud begins to feel what no one else around him seems to notice: change. As he watches the stars, the engines, and the mysterious routines that govern every meal, sleep, and waking hour, his unease grows into a dangerous curiosity about the world he has always accepted. When a strange shift in the viewport reveals a blue-white star and then a vast green-brown-blue sphere beyond the ship, Rikud realizes that his world may not be fixed at all, but moving toward something immense and unknown. His questions lead him past forbidden doors, hidden machinery, and warnings about the ship's self-contained order, until he discovers the living garden outside. But when he tries to share what he has learned, his community rejects him, and his rebellion against the buzzer that controls their lives brings hunger, fear, and pursuit. In the end, Rikud forces open the way to the garden and steps into fresh air, water, and plants, where even hostility begins to give way to wonder. A classic tale of awakening, this story celebrates curiosity, courage, and the shock of discovering a larger world. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
