Hold 'em, Wyndham‪!‬

At Wyndham School, where football, discipline, and school pride shape daily life, Clif Bingham returns to find coach George Gray Otis—respected, demanding, and full of plans for the coming season. In a lively reunion with his friend Tom Kemble, Clif crosses the hot town of Freeburg, heads back to West Hall, and settles into the familiar comfort of Room 40, where the boys trade jokes, dreams, and worries about the year ahead. Otis's hard-driving approach quickly becomes clear: with only two months to build a team and dangerous opponents like Highland and Wolcott on the schedule, he is already thinking about strategy, including moving Clif from end to tackle. The season soon explodes into motion when Wyndham's much-feared rivals turn out to be ordinary, and a crushing 36–0 victory launches the school's exuberant "No Defeats" campaign. Amid the cheers, rainy-day downtime, and a surprising chess upset by shy newcomer Lemuel John Parks, the boys begin to see that overlooked talent can matter as much as star power. As Clif, Tom, and Loring consider Parks for the line, the story blends humor, camaraderie, and competitive ambition into a spirited schoolboy football tale.
