Publisher Description
Booked on the SMSTS, or about to be? The five-day Site Management Safety Training Scheme ends with an exam set by CITB: 25 questions, 32 marks, 35 minutes, and 26 marks out of 32 to pass. This book is a study companion for the course. It explains the law and the site rules behind the exam in twelve short chapters: how the course and the exam work, health and safety law and enforcement, risk assessment, CDM 2015 for clients, designers and contractors, running the construction phase, welfare and first aid, asbestos, noise, vibration, manual handling and PPE, work equipment, lifting, site traffic and electricity, accidents, RIDDOR, fire and emergencies, work at height, and excavations, confined spaces and demolition.
It points out the traps the exam likes: who holds which CDM duty, the notification test with its 30 working days and 500 person days, inspection intervals, the RIDDOR deadlines and the counting of days, noise and vibration action values and limit values, guard rail heights, and what a competent person must check and when.
The three mock exams in this book have 25 questions each and are marked out of 32, like the real one: the first 18 questions score 1 mark and the last 7 score 2 marks. The 2-mark questions are practised in a "choose two" format, and the book says so plainly. Sit each mock exam against the clock: the first 20 minutes without any book, the last 15 minutes with your own reference material.
What is inside:
- 12 short chapters you can read on a phone, each ending with three Test Yourself questions
- 4 appendices: key figures at a glance, site manager's checklists, a glossary, and a seven-day revision plan with exam day advice
- 125 original practice questions by chapter, every one with the correct answer and a short explanation
- 3 mock exams of 25 questions marked out of 32, with answers and explanations
Rules are current at the time of writing. Where a point could not be confirmed, the book says so rather than guess.
All questions are original. This is an independent study guide: it is not produced, endorsed or approved by CITB or any other authority, and it does not contain real exam questions. It does not replace the course, your trainer or the Regulations themselves, and it does not guarantee a pass. It is written for Great Britain.
Method of creation: this book was written with the help of artificial intelligence tools, under the author's direction; every rule was written from its source text and reviewed and every practice question was written for this book.
