Flowers of Singapore
Descrição da editora
I love Singapore. Even though I find the heat and humidity in Singapore disagreeable, the people and the landscape make it bearable. It is not hard to see why sailors of old found it to be such an intriguing and exotic destination, or why it remains a favorite travel spot for those looking for modern comfort wrapped in what most go there thinking is an unfamiliar culture.
I also owe Singapore a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. It is Singapore that drew me back into photography after having abandoned the art for nearly 35 year. The image at right, taken on my first trip to Singapore with a small consumer digital camera, awakened something deep inside me. I would find myself unconsciously staring at the image, not knowing why I was so transfixed. It occurred to me one day however, that the longing was a desire to create again, expressing myself through the captured image.
This book is dedicated to the nation of Singapore, and is a collection of images like those that called forth my muse once more. Perhaps my creative fire would have been rekindled by some other spark, through some other act of fate, but the fact remain that it was Singapore that sang its siren song, and brought me to where I am today. And for that, I say “Thank you Singapore.”
