Motion and Magnets

Motion and Magnets is part of the Smithsonian Science Stories Literacy Series. Motion and Magnets features short stories that pair with the module, How Can We Predict Patterns of Motion? Both are aligned to grade 3 standards and have a focus on science and engineering. In Motion and Magnets, students will read about how forces can cause objects to move, patterns of motion of everyday objects, and the importance of magnets in their lives. 


Motion and Magnets includes the following features: 

• Stories that focus on patterns of motion and devices that use magnets

• Stories that highlight science and engineering careers

• Incorporation of objects from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, and Smithsonian National Museum of American History that show motion is driven by forces 

• On-grade and below-grade formats
