Pequea Valley High School

Pequea Valley High School is located in Kinzers, Pennsylvania. We are in the heartland of Amish country in rural Lancaster County.

In 2009 we were faced with a problem as a district. We needed to implement strategies and tools that would allow us to customize learning for our learners, teach 21st century skills, prepare learners to be self-

guided, all while improving achievement test scores.

Our solution was to move towards a 1:1 Apple learning environment where each learner directs and customizes their own learning. We are now in the ninth year of this program. As with all learning, our growth was not linear. School at Pequea Valley High School is a human experience, unlike many other high school experiences that are so mechanical, churning children through a system timed and sequential curriculum. We believe Each Learner Counts and treat them all uniquely. We provide a mass customized experience through virtual as well as, blended and hybrid courses, clubs for all interests, authentic, real-world experiences, and internships to get our learners involved in industry. This all gets very messy but provides the best quality education that each of our learners deserves. This is the story of how it all came together and how it continues to be a success!
