Spare Key After Midnight

Neil Ramsey does not pine. He monitors.

As a 911 dispatcher, Neil spends his nights staying calm while other people’s lives fall apart. His own life is precise, organized, and carefully controlled—especially when it comes to Stuart Bell, his very straight downstairs neighbor.

Then an electrical emergency sends Neil to Stuart’s door after midnight, and before the night is over, Neil has something he never expected: Stuart’s spare key.

It’s supposed to be for emergencies.

Instead, Stuart keeps inventing reasons for Neil to use it.

A suspicious freezer. A perfectly healthy radiator. Even a houseplant that turns out to be plastic.

Soon Neil is walking through Stuart’s door at 2:30 every morning, and the supposedly straight man waiting downstairs isn’t acting very straight anymore.

Stuart has spent thirty-six years thinking he knew exactly who he was. Neil has spent years refusing to be anyone’s secret, experiment, or late-night exception.

So if Stuart wants him, he’ll have to ask properly.

And once he does, neither of them is prepared for just how much one spare key can unlock.
