A Nobel Prize winning Irish dramatist and author, one of the founders of the Irish Literary Revival, William Butler Yeats is considered one of the twentieth century's key English language poets. A Symbolist poet, he had published during his life several volumes of plays and poetry, which are characterized dreamlike atmosphere, folk motifs and symbols.

 “The Cutting of an Agate” is a collection of essays, first published in 1912 and and constitute those short prose works that Yeats selected to preserve from his first fifty years. The main themes are the ideas of Good and Evil, religion and faith.
