On Christmas Eve, with only $1.87 in the pocket, and desperated to find a gift for Jim, Della saled her hair for $20 to a nearby hairdresser named Madame Sofronie, and eventually found a platinum pocket watch fob chain for Jim's watch. In the evening, when Jim returned at home and saw Della without hairs, Jim told her, that he has sold his watch to get the money to buy present for Della - an assortment of expensive hair accessories…
