Nina is a young Latin girl, who was raised by a single mother who didn't bother with her daughter's traumatic life experiences. She grew up in a run-down neighborhood that exposes her to all of the harsh conditions that plague so many poverty-stricken youths. Nina thinks that the only way she can escape her life is by becoming promiscuous. Her inability to make good decisions forces her to choose the wrong type of men. They put her through heartbreak and a whirlwind of problems. While in junior high school, she becomes pregnant and eventually has two children before she's even old enough to drink. However, not her ideal way to raise children she stills struggles in this increasingly pessimistic world to experience actual love in a life that mostly offers the illusion of it. Despite all of the cruel obstacles she goes threw Nina never stops fighting to have a better life.
