Publisher Description
An instant #1 New York Times bestseller
Agent Pendergast faces his most unexpected challenge yet when bloodless bodies begin to appear in Savannah, Georgia.
A fabulous heist:
On the evening of November 24, 1971, D. B. Cooper hijacked Flight 305—Portland to Seattle—with a fake bomb, collected a ransom of $200,000, and then parachuted from the rear of the plane, disappearing into the night … and into history.
A brutal crime steeped in legend and malevolence:
Fifty years later, Agent Pendergast takes on a bizarre and gruesome case: bodies are found with no blood left in their veins—sowing panic and reviving whispered tales of the infamous Savannah Vampire.
A case like no other:
As the mystery rises along with the body count, Pendergast and his partner, Agent Coldmoon, race to understand how—or if—these murders are connected to the only unsolved skyjacking in American history.
Together, they uncover not just the answer… but an unearthly evil beyond all imagining.
Customer Reviews
Worth a listen during a sale.
Highlights:
1. The narration / voice acting is stellar;
2. The story is well-paced;
3. The setting, supporting characters and side stories are enjoyable;
Lowlights:
1. The character of Coldmoon is unbelievable. He’s simply far too stupid to be an FBI agent. This is a problem for the reader because he is the vehicle through which much of the mystery is told, usually in the form of an inane question the reader has solved themselves long before. The result is a lot of over explaining the obvious. The authors should have trusted their readers’ abilities to follow along and deduce for themselves.
2. The resolution borders upon the absurd. It’s a strange juxtaposition to form the first half of the novel upon facts and logic, and the second half upon a mix of Lovecraft and H.G. Wells. These were thrilling concepts a century ago, but nowadays it feels dated and closer to fantasy than thriller. Ultimately, it was a disappointing conclusion to an otherwise well-built mystery.
