65-year-old widow Dolores Claiborne is giving her statement to the local police, and she has a lot to say. Accused of killing the wealthy old woman who’s employed her for decades, Dolores is adamant that she didn’t do it. Which is not to say that she’s never killed anyone. Actress Frances Sternhagen—who’s had roles in the screen versions of both Misery and The Mist—gives a powerhouse performance as Stephen King’s lonely but deceptively strong heroine. Sternhagen has fun with Dolores’ folksy Maine accent and the everyday poetry of King’s dialogue, and gut punches us with moments of poignancy and sadness. This is a brilliant audiobook rendition of one of the horror master’s most haunting, melancholy novels, and an essential listen for his legion of fans.

Delores Claiborne
Loved this book way back when it came out. Always loved SK’s writing, but also wished he would write some books without horror in them. I read it when it came out in paperback, and although I mostly remember the plot, it was a passage about dust bunnies which made the most impression on me.
The movie was good, too.
I’ve recently been reading John Irving novels, also set partly in Maine. Interesting comparisons.
Think this will make a good audiobook. Thank you, SK, for your history of wonderful storytelling.
Nice read
Enjoyed the story line of this book. It had typical king elements like murder, supernatural elements, unexpected twists in the plot. It was told through one person which was new for me. Overall, a good read.
Voice
Her voice and fake accent makes it unlistenable.
