APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
After setting up the enchanting world of Hogwarts—and launching a global sensation that’s still going strong—J.K. Rowling cleverly ups the ante in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In addition to making Harry and his pals slightly more worldly and wise, Rowling increases the ominous warnings and unsettling fears they face. British actor Jim Dale narrates Rowling’s wizardry with charming warmth and a masterful sense of timing that really makes the action scenes pop.

A Magical Journey
The author’s incredible imagination shines in every detail, creating a captivating experience with each installment. The storylines are so detailed that it feels as if you are there yourself. Additionally, the narrator breathes life into the characters, crafting a truly amazing and immersive journey that keeps you hooked and eager to know what happens next.
Wrong voice actor
My rating is for the audiobook, not for the books themselves.
Great books, not so great audiobook. The books are wonderfully crafted world building for the imagination. However, listening to the voice actor—who no doubt is an accomplished actor—read the series, it seems obvious that there was no audition for said reading. The emotions used to convey the dialogue were disappointing and, at times as someone said when they walked by while I was listening to it, creepy. The emotions expressed were really off.
For example, one of the twins said Harry’s name, followed by a dialogue tag and ending with the emotion used. The narrator seemed to discover after reading the emotion that he used the wrong expression.
The reading: “HARRY!” read excitedly or happily.
The emotional tag was something along the lines of being worried, sad, concerned. It did not read well.
Another example is every time Hermione says Harry’s name, it’s also the wrong emotion and most always too long (Hhhhhhhhaaarrrryyy).
The narrator’s reading came across like he’d only read the HP books once, and did not prepare for the audiobook reading.
I really wish that Pottermore Audiobooks had invested in an appropriate voice cast, similar to one of Pullman’s HDM series where they had multiple voice actors narrating. It would have made for a richer listening of the series.
I don’t want to be disappointed by the audiobooks, but I am.
