Aggie and Mary Anne arrived as freshmen at St. James Academy, strangers to each other and the foreign world of class struggle and prejudice imbedded in campus life there. 

The only kids on scholarship in their class, they were thrown together from the start and soon became friends as close as sisters. They were joined at the hip against the wealthy heirs of the school's founders and formed a bond that they never imagined breaking.
