The path of a murderer passes a little too close to home for a stalwart NYPD detective in this gritty crime thriller. After fishing the body of a beautiful young college student out of the Hudson River, Michael Bennett quickly realizes that he’s got a big problem. This appears to be the work of a serial killer with a particular type—and his daughter fits that type perfectly. Just like their hero, co-authors James Patterson and James O. Born aren’t interested in wasting time. They dive right into the inner workings of the NYPD and Bennett’s chaotic home life raising 10 kids. The tension never ratchets down, culminating in a last-second twist that knocked us for a loop. Narrator Joshua Kane infuses Bennett’s first-person narration with solid good-guy energy. Obsessed is a breakneck thriller with a hero you’ll love to root for.
