IF NOT YOU, WHO ELSE?
As the mighty alien fleet from the latest computer game thunders across the screen, Johnny prepares to blow them into the usual million pieces. And they send him a message: We surrender.
They're not supposed to do that! They're supposed to die. And computer joysticks don't have 'Don't Fire' buttons . . .
But it's only a game, isn't it. Isn't it?
The first book in the Johnny Maxwell trilogy.

A story within a living world of very human characters
The surface story is one that connects to many. What would you do should an entire video game alien race surrender to You. Would your friends believe you? Even when the aliens have disappeared from every other copy of the game?
Underneath and not always addressed is the relationship of Johnny’s parents. They are in ‘troubled times’ and things are stressed at home. Peer pressure, social expectations and the like are all elements that are Felt but not expressed. It gives the story a real feeling of existing in an already moving world and then this happened.
The whole Johnny Maxwell series lives in a way that many other young adult books don’t. Icebergs of the adult world drift around and cause ripples but because the characters wouldn’t know how to express it, those ripples are carefully written to be observed all the same.
